From the President We ended September with our Judy Bradley Memorial Campout at Hordes creek. As always It was a fun time. If you like hop flavor and okra I would suggest you boil the 2 together, not that I will be cooking it any time soon, but for me the hops almost made it palatable. I still don't like okra but might try it with another food item. Randy and Stacey potentially have a new career of untangling fishing lines. Lots of laughs, good food, friends and good beer. Our stone soup beer is going well. I'm waiting with apprehension to taste the end result. If it has a slimy okra taste Dan and Carol are getting my share for that wonderful addition (I thought we were friends). The week following the campout the club attended the Abilene Beer Summit and had a very nice showing. Immediately following that our brew team headed to Fort Worth for the 2025 Iron Mash Competition at Three Wide Brewing. This year’s challenge was a Cocktail inspired beer and we chose Tom Collins. I would like to thank my daughter Cristina and Granddaughter Hannah who volunteered to be our designated drivers, which made the trip very nice. Three Wide Brewing is a very nice brewery with good beer you should definitely check out if you are in the area. The barrel aged Alien Pancake was my favorite, rich malt, nice barrel ageing, very smooth and drinkable for 12%. The second part of the Iron Mash competition is the food pairing that most likely will take place in February. We should be able to sample the beer in December so we can come up with some ideas. whoever is going to participate in February we need to get together on lodging and figure out if we want to get hotels or an Airbnb.  Results of the Single Style Competition (Belgian Blonde) are: Peggy 1st Kevin 2nd Dave Weber 3rd  Congratulations everyone. As we approach the last competition of 2025 I need to know who is entering so I can line up the judges. Competition standings David and Teresa 1 point each Will and Randy 3 points each Russell 5 points Eric 11 points Gary 12 points Dave 14 points Peggy and Kevin are currently tied for first with 17 points apiece  So, we do have a tight competition with multiple possible outcomes. Upcoming Events The club meeting will be held October 18th. Time and place will be determined shortly. I'm thinking maybe the Beer Garden in the afternoon so let me know who will be available for this. Club nominations will close on the 18th and voting will take place at the November meeting. And do not forget about the chili cook off at that meeting. We have 11 raffle tickets left before we can do the drawing. Tickets are 10 dollars each and the prizes include:  $25 Gift card to Adventures in Homebrewing, $20Gift card to Pinkies, $20 Gift card to SunnHaus, $25 Gift card to Grain Theory, $20 Gift card to Plateau Brewing, $20 Gift card to Zero One, $20 Gift card to Brew Hound, and $60 Visa gift card. 1st place will receive 5 gift cards second place will receive 3. I would like to have one more beer dinner before the end of the year. I'm thinking end of October or beginning of November. Let me know if anyone is available to host. Russell is going to come up with a date to work on the second bar so look for that. I'm looking for as much input as possible.  |
