From the President

Judging for the 2025 Wort Challenge was held on August 2nd at Plateau Brewing in San Angelo. Thank you to Dan for providing the wort and judges, and a big thanks to Will for stepping in and conducting the contest and making sure all the paperwork was filled out. There was a total of 8 entries. I hope everyone had fun and learned something. I did, I need to up my game on my carbonation technique.

Here are the results:

First place and Brewers choice to be brewed at Plateau brewing, Eric with a Belgian Wit

Second place Gary with a Belgian Pale Ale

Third place Russell with an American Strong Ale.

The next competition is the single style challenge. This year the chosen style is a Belgian Blonde. I will need a participant count so I can start lining up judges and a location. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to judge this contest.

As many of you know, caring for Peggy is taking more time and I am not as flexible. So, I am asking members for some help to make sure these activities are successful. Pat and Marty have graciously agreed to host the next beer dinner. Teresa has organized the August meeting at Grain Theory.

For the club campout, I cannot emphasize enough that we have an accurate count of attendance. It’s one of the club’s biggest expenses and attendance helps pay for the spot and food. We need someone coordinating the food and some of the activities, especially if we have children or grandchildren coming. I can help with ideas and what we have done in the past. If you are willing to help please contact me so we can get started.

I am currently contacting the organizers of the Beer Summit about our participation, and will have more info shortly. Again, a count is needed on who can be there and who would like to help with the demonstration.

For Iron Mash we need at least 2 brewers to attend that day. I will attend if I can. Whoever commits we have brewers that have done it before and can be a resource. The second part of this contest is the food pairing at the awards ceremony. I would like a couple of members to work on this in conjunction with the brewers and again there are members that can be helpful with info.

And last, the repairs for the old bar for resale. This will be done at Russell’s house, but the more input we have will facilitate the outcome we desire.

Upcoming Events

August 9th - Beer dinner at Pat and Marty’s. It begins at 6. Make sure you contact them if you can make it, or RSVP on the website bigcountryhomebrewers.com.

August 16th - Club meeting 2-4 pm at Grain Theory.

September 26, 27, and 28 - The Judy Bradley Memorial Club Campout, at Hord's Creek, Group shelter 1. We will need a count for this so we can plan accordingly.

Iron Mash - date TBD, it is in October and is usually a Sunday. I will post the date when they announce it.

We still need to finish rebuilding the old bar for resale. We need materials and time donations, and anyone interested in purchasing it should contact Gary.
